Building a Data-Informed Culture for Nonprofit Organizations

On April 17 Amanda Lopez, President at Transform Consulting Group, presented to a group of over 50 nonprofit leaders in Northeast Indiana on building a data-informed nonprofit at the Northeast Indiana Funders Collective.

The Northeast Indiana Funders Collective (NIFC) is a coalition of the chief executives from the following funders: AWS Foundation, Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne, Don Wood Foundation, Foellinger Foundation, The James Foundation, Mary Cross Tippmann Foundation, St. Joseph Community Health Foundation.

NIFC hosts these free “60 Minute” training/ networking sessions for nonprofits in Northeast Indiana. The funders invite a different presenter to speak on a topic that is a pressing issue for nonprofit organizations. During the 60 Minutes session, there is time for networking with their peers and a Q&A panel with the funders.

During Amanda’s presentation, she shared Transform Consulting Group’s framework for building a data-informed organization.

  1. Clear Metrics: The organization has agreed-upon key indicators for the organization that tie back to the mission. Everyone understands the importance of these metrics and how their role/team supports accomplishing them.

  2. Data Access: Employees need to have access to the data to glean insights and use data. Data must be Findable, Accessible, Interpretable, and Reusable (FAIR).

  3. Data Literacy: Staff have the knowledge and understanding of data terms, systems and tools.

  4. Leadership Buy-In: Leadership-at all levels-is on board in understanding the importance of data, using data, and empowering and equipping their staff with data.

We love facilitating presentations and training. Whether you have a group of 10 or 500, in-person or virtual, Amanda is ready to speak, train, and engage your team!
